Criminal ordered to pay back thousands - Local - Leigh Reporter

Criminal ordered to pay back thousands - Local - Leigh Reporter: "Carl Wrend, of Chapel Street, Leigh, was arrested and jailed along with 10 other men as part of Operation Dunlin - a drug-busting investigation to catch an organised crime ring based in East Lancashire.

The 29-year-old has been forced to hand over £1,110, before eventually paying back a total of £4,010.

The gang were involved in the wide scale distribution of class A, class B and class C drugs in Lancashire, Greater Manchester and across the country in 2008 and 2009.

During a hearing at Preston Crown Court this week, the judge decided that the men had gained more than £1 million as a result of their crimes and that this should be surrendered.

Under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA), police can deprive criminals of anything that represents profit from crime, whether it is money, cars or houses.

Confiscation orders of differing amounts were attributed to each person."
