Chinese Investigative Journalist Sun Hongjie Dies After Gang Beating: "Media rights groups are calling for an inquiry into the fatal beating of Chinese journalist Sun Hongjie, who had investigated politically sensitive issues such as government-enforced housing demolitions.

Sun, a senior reporter at the Northern Xinjiang Morning Post in western China, died at a hospital in Kuitun on Tuesday, 10 days after he was beaten by six men at a construction site, The Associated Press reported.

The government-controlled state media reported what police said: that Sun had been involved in a personal dispute with another man who arranged the beating.

The official Xinhua news agency said six suspects have been arrested and police are investigating, Agence France-Presse reported."
