The Most Dangerous Gang In The U.S. - Cincinnati News Story - WLWT Cincinnati: "El Salvador’s borders cannot contain La Mara Salvatrucha. The gang has spread to other Latin American countries like Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico.
And while MS-13 never really disappeared from the U.S., its numbers here have grown since the 1980s. The group is now bigger and badder, more organized and more lethal.
For its part, the FBI launched an MS-13 National Gang Task Force in December 2004 with the goal of dismantling this dangerous organization. The FBI says it has improved the flow of information to help local and state law enforcement agencies more easily identify the gang.
Notable Headlines
In 2003, Brenda Paz was found murdered on the banks of the Shenandoah River in Virginia. Brenda was 17 years old and pregnant. She was also a member of MS-13 who had become a federal informant. Two of her fellow gang members were later convicted of murder conspiracy and retaliating against an informant.
In 2004, the Washington Times reported MS-13 had set up a major human smuggling operation in Mexico, controlling a good portion of the routes used to sneak illegal immigrants across the border into the U.S.
In 2005, the president of El Salvador raised even more alarm, suggesting members of MS-13 were meeting with al-Qaida to infiltrate the U.S. Those reports have since been refuted by the U.S. government."
