police are expected today to continue questioning Superintendent Harry ‘Bungles’ Daley, who has been arrested in connection with corruption allegations. The police said it is likely he will be charged soon. Valerie Neita Robertson, who heads the legal team representing Superintendent Daley said if he is not charged today, she will be petitioning the court to secure his release. Superintendent Daley was questioned by detectives over the weekend in the presence of his lawyer, as lawmen probed corruption allegations against him. Daley was arrested following a covert sting by the Anti-Corruption Branch in Downtown Kingston last Thursday.
Since the start of this year, more than 50 members of the force have been charged with breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act. Daley is the first member of the police officer corps to be charged in connection with breaches of the Act since the major clampdown started in January. Daley was last in the news in June, when he was involved in an altercation with a member of the Jamaica Defence Force during a police/military operation in Spanish Town. Tt was reported that the soldier pointed his gun at Daley, who was head of the St. Catherine North Police Division and who was not aware of the operation in the area under his command.
