Police to warn firms against trading with suspected crooks - Herald Scotland | News | Crime & Courts: "police think they have found a way around the problem. Forces across Scotland are already forging what they call information-sharing protocols with public bodies. Strathclyde Police, for example, already has four with councils, including Glasgow. Now they are looking at having the same kind of relationship with some big private businesses.
They have good reason to do so: the first and biggest scoping exercise of its kind, it emerged last night, uncovered nearly 300 businesses in Glasgow with gangster links. Operation Enterprise, which ended last week, targeted firms as varied as nail bars and second-hand car dealerships, seizing or freezing nearly £4 million in assets and cash.
Police have still to name the companies they have linked to criminals. But senior officers yesterday signalled that they are ready, for the first time, to formally pass such information on to legitimate companies that may be doing business with firms that are effectively fronts for crime groups."
