Cherresse Richardson-Frederick

Cherresse Richardson-Frederick was shot in the head while walking home from school on Tuesday.
The shooting occurred in the 9500 block of Ardwick Ardmore Road near Charles Herbert Flowers High School in Glenarden.
Richardson-Frederick was a junior at Flowers High School. She died at an area hospital.
Prince George's County Public Schools and the district's superintendent released statements on Thursday.
The school board said Richardson-Frederick was known as a "bright student who was liked by many."
“We are deeply grieved about this loss to our community and student body due to a senseless act of violence in our community," said Dr. John E. Deasy, Superintendent of Schools. "Our immediate support is for the fiscal and emotional needs of the family and to support the students and friends of Cherresse."
The victim's family also released a statement.
"We would like to thank everyone for all the heartfelt support, prayers and immensely kind gestures during this extremely difficult time for our family, as well as those of the Charles Herbert Flowers community," the family said. "Cherresse will be greatly missed. Please continue to respect our family and allow us to mourn peacefully."
Another student who was walking with Richardson-Frederick was also struck. Police are still searching for the gunman.
Richardson-Frederick's family said that anyone with information about the shooting should contact the Prince George's County Police Department.
